Setting Up the 3d PrinterTurn on the printer.
If you want to change the filament, choose that from the menu screen on the Makerbot. Follow the onscreen directions. Make sure the build plate is clear. Ripped tape is not a problem-- it only needs to be changed if there are huge holes. Every once in a while, it it good to level the build plate. You can do this by again following the onscreen directions. Make sure the onscreen menu is on Print. The rest of the setup happens in the Makerbot Desktop software. |
Using the 3d printer
The computer immediately to the right of the Makerbot has the Makerbot Desktop software.
Safety
Extruder gets hot!
Never touch it if the Makerbot is or has been running.
If it detaches, stop the job and wait until the extruder cools off before fixing it.
PLA is hot!
Let it cool before touching.
This is especially true when you are changing filament- don't put your hand under the filament as it runs and wait a few seconds before removing the nested filament.
Do not touch or lean on the printer mid job.
Jiggling ruins jobs.
Jams happen, but don’t lose your head!
Stop the printer.
Wait until it cools.
Deal with the jam or call an adult. (Okay, these are rules for our kiddos. Call Dayle :)
